The tan

application

Flawless application is a point of emphasis at Airbrush Atelier. A meticulous approach is taken to achieving a seamless finish across areas that traditionally develop unevenly, including the hands, wrists, ankles, feet, elbows, and knees. I adjust product distribution and use blending to avoid excessive darkness in delicate areas. Creating natural-looking hands and feet is one of the details I’m most known for, along with delivering color that looks refined in person, meets color and depth expectations, lasts for 7-10 days, and fades evenly over time.

Color Theory

Every client processes color differently. Some skin pulls excessively orange with traditional warm-based solutions. Others absorb cool tones too aggressively and can appear flat or overly muted. Factors such as olive undertones, yellow undertones, pale/dull skin, redness in the skin, surface dehydration, body temperature, pH balance, recent sun exposure and skincare products can all influence the final result.

At Airbrush Atelier, each client’s solution is approached as a color balancing process rather than a “one-shade-fits-all” application. In advance of your appointment, you’ll provide your Fitzpatrick skin type, skin undertone, desired depth of tan, and desired shade of tan. If you’re not sure how to answer some of these questions, feel free to email me at book@airbrushatelier.com or include your social media profile on the intake form.

SKIN MATURITY & other CONDITIONS

Mature, dehydrated, or sensitive skin often benefits from softer formulations, controlled color development, and additional hydration support to help maintain a smooth, refined finish and a more even fade over time. For clients with dryness, eczema, or skin sensitivities, I may select fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, or lower DHA formulations, adjust development timing, and apply barrier cream to dry areas that are more prone to patchiness or irritation.

I also offer specialized skincare-focused solutions, including newer formulations designed to support a firmer, smoother overall appearance while helping minimize the look of texture and cellulite on the skin. As part of my intake process, I ask clients about skin quality, sensitivities, and any underlying skin concerns so the tan can be tailored appropriately to both the skin and the desired result.

weddings, photoshoots, dance

For weddings, photoshoots, and dance applications, the tan is customized based on the lighting environment, desired depth, wardrobe, and how the skin needs to appear both in person and on camera. This may include selecting softer clear solutions that are often preferable for brides seeking a more natural finish with minimal transfer, utilizing ultra dark formulas designed specifically for dancers and stage lighting, incorporating subtle contouring, and applying DMI finishing spray to help improve sweat resistance and overall longevity for weddings, performances, long shoot days, and extended wear.

body & face contouring

Contour placement and tonal variation can subtly enhance muscle definition, elongate the appearance of the limbs, soften uneven coloration, and create a more balanced overall silhouette. These conservative adjustments are intentionally tailored to the individual.
